FINALS ARE UPON US
It's that scary time of the semester where the idea of finals are right around the corner and stressing everyone out. Although when finals are close that also means that the end of the semester is right around the corner but getting through finals week is the hard part. However my personal finals week isn't looking as stressful as most so I am quite thankful. The only final I am truly worried about is principles of accounting due to the fact that I am not a fan of the class and it is a cumulative final which is quite unfortunate.
Even though final exams are a concrete part of the college experience I honestly don't see the need for them. I haven't seen much benefit testing students on mass amounts of information without being able to use any sort of reference information. It seems old fashioned and unnecessary considering how easy it is to find the information you are looking for in today's tech driven world. On top of that I don't understand why a massive test is the determining factor on why an individual passes a class. The fact that someone can go 95% of the semester and turn in all assignments, shows up to class, and gets decent grades on every assignment but can still fail out due to one task seems unfair.
At the end of the day I understand that final exams are more than likely not going away any time soon. However, I think it is an important conversation to have when it comes to the future of final exams and the overall impact on student's grades and long term success even after graduation.
I agree that finals are extremely stressful. I feel like smaller tests/quizzes that don't tank your entire grade could be a good alternative to final exams. Good luck on your principles of accounting final!
ReplyDeleteChase Coburn: The only thing I can think about is feeling after you finish your final. I encourage you to make sure to not stress yourself out and take breaks and walks.
