THE POWER OF MOTIVIATION

Something I have personally struggled with throughout my life is my stance on motivation. Motivation can be an amazing tool to start a goal or strive for something you have always wanted. However, I have noticed that motivation can be as much of a reason for failure rather than a tool for success. The hard truth about motivation is, it never lasts for long term. Whenever a new task or goal is set the motivation to do said task is at an all time high. However when I continue to work at this goal I realize the motivation starts to decrease especially if there is no instant feedback and results of progress. This is where I realized in order to achieve anything hard you must work off of determination and grit rather than motivation.

Being able to use this mindset will allow the overall success rate of your personal goals to be a lot higher because you are relying on yourself and your strengths rather than a feeling that comes and goes. Now I am not saying that motivation should be ignored or is a bad thing it just shouldn't be relied on. There are certain days where motivation is at an all time high just like at the beginning of your journey and on those days the motivation can be a great tool to push yourself and really achieve something great. However when the motivation fades once again that can't discourage you from achieving and chasing greatness and at that moment is where you have to rely on grit and toughness to push through.

So when thinking about motivation it falls into a category of balance. When the motivation is there use it but don't rely on it like a crutch. Understanding how to rely on consistency will provide better results and will allow you to grow as a person more often rather than using motivation as that tool for success.

  1. I agree that motivation does not last long term! I read in a book once that if you don't have persistence and accountability you will not be able to accomplish anything in life. However, using motivation when you have it can be very helpful.
